Archery at Sydney Olympic Park

Looking for something interesting to do in the school holidays? Archery is fascinating and exciting for adults and kids (10 years +) alike, and now you can experience an hour of archery for only $15 including a short safety induction and qualified supervision. The session starts at 2.30pm at The Archery Centre at Sydney Olympic Park www.archerycentre.com.au If the weather is inclement firing takes place under an awning but would be abandoned if weather is extreme. If it is a nice day we can picnic at one of the many lovely picnic spots in the vast Olympic Park and bike riding is also well catered for. Bronte to Coogee Coastal Walk

Enjoy a bracing winter walk by the sea. This popular coastal walk offers beautiful coastline vistas, cosy beaches and cafe strips for refuelling. Meet Linda at the bus stand opposite Bronte Beach cafes (the 378 bus can get you there). On the way we will pass Waverley Cemetery, situated on dramatic coastline with amazing ocean views. It is famous for being home to the graves of many famous Australians such as Henry Lawson and Lawrence Hargrave. The walk takes about two hours to complete (return) at a good pace and is easy to medium difficulty with a steep section and some steps. Suitable for children 6 years and over (if they are good walkers). On the way we will stop for lunch and hot chocolate at a café, or takeaway to have in the park. Don’t forget to bring your hat, sunscreen and some water. See you there!

North Sydney harbour walk, Milsons Point to Balls Head Reserve.

Meet Colin at the Burton Road underpass for lunch at the Kirribilli Markets at noon and then set off for a scenic walk around Lavender Bay and some of the more interesting foreshore areas of Sydney to take in the harbour sights and learn about some of the early history of Sydney. It is mostly easy walking and should not take more than 2 hours and ending up at Luna Park for a coffee or ride. Colin will act as the local guide and will share some of the more interesting facts of the area that are less well known to non residents. Please note that if it rains this event will be cancelled.

Plant a Tree on National Tree Day

'Life is better with trees!' Help to improve life and have a fun day outdoors in the process. This site is a park with a fabulous kids playground but unfortunately at this stage no trees or garden. The area was formerly a soil stockpile area for developers and the aim of tree day is to plant a lot of trees and beautify the park. Please wear appropriate clothing (hat, covered shoes, long sleeved shirt and long pants). Tools and equipment for planting, refreshments and a BBQ will be provided and plants will be given away on the day. Afterwards, those who want to can head to a nearby McDonalds to enjoy a coffee while the kids play on the equipment.

Murder Mystery in Bundanoon

Join us for an exciting weekend in the Southern Highlands staying at the world renowned Bundanoon YHA. There will be plenty to do over the weekend including visiting the local monastery, bush walking, seeing the glow-worms grotto, or just sitting in front of the open fireplace chatting to friends. One of the many activities planned is a Murder Mystery dinner on Saturday night. Can you work out who the murderer is? The cost for two nights accommodation and dinner on Saturday night is only $95.00. Please note that numbers are limited to 38 people (we will have the place to ourselves) so you will need to book in early to reserve your place. Wentworth Common is a large open recreational space with picnic and bbq facilities, a playground and a pedestrian/cycle path. The kids will be kept entertained as they explore the adventure playground including a flying fox, an enormous sandpit, a slide, climbing frame, swings and shade sails. SwC Sports Equipment will also be available for all to enjoy and we can explore the Bay Marker, an elevated landform with a pathway that spirals up to views over the wetlands, Homebush Bay, Haslams Creek and the city skyline. Manly Dam Park Circuit Bush Walk and Picnic

Come along and walk the whole way around Manly Dam (7.3 km). There are spectacular views from both sides of the dam. This walk has a moderate grading and is probably most suitable for ages 6 and up (if the child is a good walker). Walk starts at 11am heading across the dam. Meet at the Information Board in Picnic Area 1 after passing through the car entrance gates on King Street, Manly Vale. Bring your lunch along as there are no facilities to purchase food on the way. Also bring water for walk (approx 3 hours), comfortable shoes and don't forget the sunblock.

Snow Trip - Smiggins Holes

There's no time like snow time! We're heading back to the slopes - this time during the peak of the season!! Last year was a great success and, with more snow at the door of the lodge, this year will be even better! This is a self drive trip with 2 nights’ accommodation at the cosy, family friendly Lodge 21, including 2x cooked breakfasts and 2x 3-course dinners. This accommodation is so close to the slopes we should be able to watch the kids skiing from the front of the lodge! This is a great value weekend and a great way to enjoy the snow with your kids and other SWC friends. But places are allocated on a first in first served basis, so book in early to ensure you don’t miss out! The plan is to depart Sydney on Friday morning 20 August, returning in the evening of Sunday 22 August. We will assist with ski hire and provide more information regarding lift tickets, ski lessons and other tips and tricks so that we can all have ball in the white stuff. Cost for accommodation and lodge meals are $360 per adult and $294 per child (this includes a $15 per night subsidy from SWC for members’ children). Please contact Geoff for more details.

Dinner and Movie at Govinda's

Tonight we enjoy a meal and movie with a difference. The meal is a delicious international vegetarian buffet followed by a recent release movie viewed whilst reclining on large and comfortable lounges and cushions. Cost of the buffet is $19.80 with the movie being only $10.00 extra. Commence dining at the upstairs restaurant from 8.15pm, the movie will commence about an hour later. Street parking can be found in nearby streets and parking stations or Kings Cross station is a short stroll.
